Dude shoved a grenade in an aggressively pulsing alien vagina — what a climax!

Acting, writing, and characters were all bad. I’ve never wanted children dead so badly.
last 🎬 I watched a brother leaves his sister and feels terrible, this bro doesn’t.

Revisiting Spielberg’s intense, hyper-realistic alien invasion. I honestly forgot how terrifying this gets; the pure panic completely blew me away.
What Worked:
• Keeping the camera tight on one family’s view honestly makes the chaos feel super personal.
• The giant Tripods moving like creepy ballet dancers look incredible and totally pop.
• Fanning brings a raw energy that completely sells the terror for me.
The Friction:
• The Harlan Ogilvy basement part really dragged for me when things ground to a halt.
• Cruise starts off too unlikable, making it hard to root for him early on.
Verdict:
Watch for a dark sci-fi ride. Skip if frantic screaming annoys you.

The best adaptation of the book and a great movie from the GOAT Spielberg. It’s amazing. Oh and I still can’t stand Rachel.

I was really, really onboard with this until that 3rd act came plodding along.
Nearly got whiplash from how much the film slowed down. As soon as they clamber into Tim Robbins’s basement, the film began to become gradually less interesting, especially that devastatingly underwhelming finale. Visual effects hold up really well, paired with the cool colour temperature throughout, giving a really cold vibe.
Tom Cruise did great here, maybe the most “average guy” character he’s ever played, but I really liked it. Dakota Fanning did a brilliant job too, sometimes the character felt a bit annoying - but that was ultimately down to the writing.
One of the more middling movies of Steven Spielberg’s filmography. If only the 3rd act was a bit more in-line with the first two - this would have been something really great.
