When diving into a Cronenberg film, there is no doubt that it will definitely be an unsettling dive into the horrific nature that comes from surreal and unnatural. Now even though I am rather new to the Cronenberg’s viewing experience with having only seen “The Fly”, nothing would have prepared me for how Horrific and relevant this film would be. Its deceptive nature from the hallucinatory to the psychologically challenged reality is something that went beyond my understanding. Max Renn’s endless torture brought wave after wave of questions that left my brain dazed and endlessly searching for resolutions. I absolutely loved Cronenberg’s technological and artistic work on this film.

Its bizarre nature brings a sense of disgust and unnatural appeal to the screen and the actors performances which left my insatiable thirst for more of the story to be filled. I await to see where my viewing experience will go with David Cronenberg’s filmography.

Cronenberg uses the fears of television to manipulate an audience as a starting off point for a conspiracy thriller curled around his favorite topics: the response of the body human to technology, and disease and mutation as evolution.

this film makes you question reality and our relationship to the media we consume, although then it was tv, now it is even more poignant because we have all the information we could ever want in the palm of our hands

Really don’t get why people think this is so special. This isn’t me trying to be negative, I genuinely don’t understand. If you make a prediction vague enough, anything is considered “ahead of its time”. People have been bitching that media violence was a problem since silent…

This movie was way ahead of its time, they just didn’t expect us to have devices in out pockets broadcasting Videodrome to us 24/7…

Didn’t really know what to expect watching this, but I absolutely love it. Definitely one of my current favorite films. Criticism on the consumption of violence is even more relevant today than it was in the 80’s

This is tough. I loved the effects, surrealism, and just bizarreness of this movie. But it just really lost the plot for me. I don’t think the influence of media on humans has ever been a secret, or a special thought for the sharp minded. That characters don’t feel fully baked.

Ahead of it’s time thematically and prophetically, I enjoyed it’s bizarre atmosphere and the body horror achieved through well crafted practical effects.

I liked the concept but bruhhh…. I lost the plot midway, since there were so many plotholes and stuff.

the plot is very ahead of its time, it feels like a david lynch movie. the effects were also very impressive for the time and disturbing

Just rewatched this morning and I already feel like I need to rewatch it again for further analysis 🧐🧐🧐 one day I will understand all on my own
