How am I just noticing that Archie Renaux is a great choice for rom-coms? That first kiss added like 10 years to my life

Watched the movie for my girl Camila Mendes and was kicking my feet like a little kid at the love story! It’s so simple but so freaking cute!! And I absolutely love the friendships that Ana made with the characters along her journey.

It's not a bad movie. BUT...Is this a rom-com I would rewatch? Nah. I just didn't see chemistry between the actors and the only refreshing character was a miserable extra in a couple of scenes. But It's an OK movie.

Cliche but okay

Having enjoyed Camila Mendes’ performances in Riverdale, I added Upgraded to my Queue. I was eager to see if her screen presence translated to film and it certainly did! Mendes is a bubbly and charismatic actress with a talent for bringing her characters to life. Her portrayal of Ana felt genuinely personable and believable which made me root for her from the get go.

Archie Renaux plays her love interest in this film and while I wasn’t familiar with him before Upgraded I found his portrayal of Will to be quite good. The charming and down-to-earth personality of his character made him likeable, even though he’s part of a wealthy acting family who would typically be portrayed as snobby in media.

The chemistry between the pair was decent, not scintillating but enough to keep the story enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed Ana’s career journey throughout the film. It’s always satisfying to see an ordinary young person rise to their dreams despite starting from nothing with virtually no support. The ending felt satisfying too. I’m glad I chose this one for tonight; it was definitely worth watching!
