Predator: Killer of Killers

Whoever gave Dan Trachtenberg and Fede Álvarez the reins to "Predator" and "Alien" needs to be awarded because both directors have delivered some of the best material I've seen yet from both franchises. I was already a fan, but now my entire life revolves around the aesthetics, stories, characters, lore, and everything. I love the animation style and level of detail, especially with the Predators, and keeping them mysterious was the perfect choice. The focus on history/culture from both this and "Prey" is the change I didn't know I needed. The dialogue isn't the best, but there's not much of it, unlike the action, which blew me apart limb by limb. I need more now.

Hopefully the Predator franchise keeps giving us bangers like this and Pray. Out of the four stories I like the Ninja, the end battle, the WWII dogfight and the Vikings in that order. I loved all the stories but this is how I would rank them. I will say I am a little surprised. I didn’t like the Viking story more. I originally thought it would be my favorite out of the entries and turned out to be my least favorite. Don’t get me wrong. I still loved it. The Ninja & Samurai story was by far the best and I enjoyed the WWII dogfight very much. Lots of creative kills and 4 unique Predator designs. The ending was a warm welcome of what is to come.

This movie bangs so hard it’s actually ridiculous. The whole franchise is basically D1 aura farming humans dog walk D1 aura farming aliens and it’s amazing. Animation truly can’t be topped when it comes to action potential and this was no exception. Just gorgeous and bad-ass.

An absolutely terrific Predator film.

This film was just incredible. The fact that it’s animated made it so they could do so much more with it, and I love that.

The voice actors were amazing, the characters were superb, and the story was excellent. Badass Predators as well.

This was just fantastic! I loved everything about it, from the animation, to the 3 separate stories that were told, each with a different type of Predator, I was locked in every single minute! The story is simple, but it works, because it doesn’t have to be overly complicated.

Predator: Killer of Killers

Predator: Killer of Killers is the unexpected 2025 American adult animated science fiction action horror anthology film, directed by Dan Trachtenberg (who helmed the critically acclaimed Prey) and Joshua Wassung, and written by Micho Robert Rutare. Produced by 20th Century Studios, this sixth film and eighth overall installment in the Predator franchise arrived as a thrilling surprise, secretly developed and animated by The Third Floor. The film brings a unique anthology format, spanning various historical periods, united by the relentless pursuit of the titular extraterrestrial hunter. My initial reaction was one of sheer delight at the concept and the involvement of Trachtenberg; an adult animated Predator film promised untapped potential. My overall impression is that Predator: Killer of Killers is a bold, visually striking, and intensely violent entry into the franchise, effectively showcasing the Predator's prowess across different eras, even if the anthology structure sometimes feels a bit disjointed.

Rating:
8.6/10 ⭐️ (★★★★½ - Exceptional)
An exceptional rating for an animated film that fearlessly explores the Predator's terrifying presence across diverse historical settings, delivering relentless action, stunning visuals, and a compelling narrative that breathes fresh life into the long-running franchise.

The Good:
* Narrative & Story (Strengths): The anthology format is a stroke of genius, allowing the film to explore different human historical periods and warrior cultures against the backdrop of Predator hunts. Each segment – Viking-era Scandinavia, feudal Japan, and World War II – feels distinct and provides a fresh canvas for the Predator's capabilities. The individual stories of Ursa, Kenji, and Torres are compelling, quickly establishing their motivations and struggles before pitting them against the ultimate hunter. The final act, uniting these "killers of killers" in an arena to face the Predator leader, is a thrilling and satisfying culmination, creating a unique narrative arc for an anthology. The inclusion of a familiar character like Naru from Prey in the final moments is a fantastic tease for future connections.
* Characters (Strengths): The voice cast is superb, bringing depth and grit to their respective characters. Lindsay LaVanchy imbues Ursa with a fierce determination and maternal drive that makes her a compelling protagonist. Louis Ozawa Changchien beautifully portrays both Kenji and Kiyoshi, grounding their fraternal conflict. Rick Gonzalez as Torres provides a relatable, everyman hero thrust into extraordinary circumstances, offering moments of levity and ingenuity. Michael Biehn's presence as Vandy is a nostalgic nod to classic action cinema, adding gravitas. The film successfully establishes each protagonist's distinct fighting style and tactical approach to survival.
* Directing & Filmmaking (Strengths): Dan Trachtenberg and Joshua Wassung's direction is sharp and dynamic. They expertly craft the atmosphere of each era, from the brutal cold of Viking lands to the disciplined elegance of feudal Japan and the gritty warfare of WWII. The direction ensures that despite the animated format, the Predator remains a terrifying, formidable force. The action sequences are meticulously choreographed and intensely violent, showcasing the Predators' various weapons and hunting methods with brutal efficiency.
* Technical Aspects (Strengths): The animation provided by The Third Floor is stunning, utilizing a mature, detailed style that captures the grit and horror of the Predator universe. The character designs are distinctive, and the environments are richly detailed, making each historical setting feel alive. The Predators themselves are rendered with impressive fidelity to their iconic design, while the "huge monster" in the arena is a grotesque and memorable addition. Benjamin Wallfisch's score is a standout, marking a successful foray into animated film composition. It’s menacing, atmospheric, and propulsive, enhancing the tension and excitement of each hunt. The sound design is immersive, making every roar, click, and plasma shot reverberate.
* Enjoyment & Engagement: Predator: Killer of Killers is an absolute blast for fans of the franchise and adult animation. Each segment is engrossing, and the anticipation of how these diverse heroes will finally confront the Predators keeps you hooked. The action is relentless and satisfying, and the anthology structure keeps the film fresh and unpredictable. It's a fantastic return to form for the franchise, showcasing its versatility.

The Not So Good:
* Narrative & Story (Weaknesses): While the anthology format is a strength, the transition between segments can feel a bit abrupt, especially before the characters are eventually united. The overarching "Predator leader" plot, while compelling, is somewhat simplistic, serving primarily as a framing device for the individual hunts. Some might find the sheer brutality and body count a bit much, even for an adult animated film.
* Characters (Weaknesses): Due to the anthology nature, some supporting characters within each segment are not given extensive development, existing primarily to highlight the protagonists or to be dispatched by the Predator.
* Enjoyment & Engagement (Negatives): For viewers who prefer a single, continuous narrative, the episodic nature of the first two acts might slightly disrupt immersion.

The Verdict:
Predator: Killer of Killers is an exceptional and highly successful addition to the Predator franchise. It leverages the adult animated format to unleash the iconic alien hunter in diverse and thrilling historical settings, delivering relentless, brutal action and compelling human stories. With strong direction from Dan Trachtenberg and Joshua Wassung, stellar voice performances, and gorgeous animation, it's a must-see for fans of the Predator series and adult action-horror. Its innovative anthology structure and the thrilling climax solidify its place as a standout entry, leaving a lasting impression that the Predator franchise has immense untapped potential beyond traditional live-action films.

Optional Additional Categories:
* Genre & Tone: The film masterfully blends science fiction, action, and horror elements, maintaining a consistently dark, brutal, and intense tone across its different historical settings. The adult animation allows for a level of visceral violence and creature design that might be more challenging in live-action.
* Target Audience: This film is clearly aimed at adult fans of the Predator franchise, those who appreciate mature animation, and viewers who enjoy gritty, survival-focused action and horror.
* Originality & Innovation: The anthology format is a significant innovation for the Predator franchise, allowing for diverse storytelling. The use of animation to explore the Predator's hunting expeditions across various historical periods, rather than being confined to a single timeline, is a fresh and original approach that truly expands the universe.
* Themes & Messages (Further Discussion): The film explores themes of survival, revenge, the nature of a warrior, and the primal instinct to hunt and be hunted. It subtly touches upon human resilience and ingenuity when faced with overwhelming extraterrestrial threats, and how different cultures approach warfare and honor.
* Comparison to Other Films: It shares the spirit of high-stakes, resourceful human vs. Predator combat seen in Prey (2022) but expands its scope. The anthology format might draw comparisons to animated anthologies like Love, Death & Robots, though with a singular franchise focus. It stands as a unique entry in the Predator cinematic canon, showcasing the versatility of the IP.

Predator: Killer of Killers

This was really interesting and unique, all three stories told did just enough to tell a good story and build characters in such a short time, that when shit hits the fan it isn’t just meaningless action and fighting. The fights and action go fucking crazy, so dam cool to watch the different fighting styles between each era and each predator. It kept me very entertained and is definitely one of the better predator movies

My score: 7.5/10
