The Odyssey
I was expecting a tiny tiny bit more.
That said the cinematography was classic Nolan, which is great.
Acting was good, I don’t believe it reaches peak performance from the actors and that Travis Scott cameo is a bit distracting to be completely honest, but I was happy with daemon and holland.
Dialogue is… a work in progress, unfortunately Nolan is known to not be the best at dialogue. Usually we can forgive that with the masterfulness of craft of the rest of the film, but I might be a little tired of it, I’d like to have dialogue to the standard of the other aspects of the film.
The designs, I think were great, I don’t need accuracy to 100%, if Nolan wanted them to look cool, he can do that, and the armors indeed looked sick.
Now to the castings since this is the most controversial aspect of the film, from not having any Greek actors to casting Elliot Page and Lupita Nyong’o…. Stop bitching, seriously, it’s not that deep, everyone has American accents and you can close an eye for that but not for this?? Get over yourself.
As I said, the only distracting person for me was Travis Scott, not because he didn’t fit, because it’s fucking Travis Scott and it’s distracting to me, and hopefully me only.
Favorite part was definitely the cyclops sequence, really fun, really cool.
I really enjoyed the soundtrack and sound design, it’s a safe bet with Nolan.
Is this his best project? Possibly, better than Oppenheimer, yes, better than interstellar? I haven’t decided that yet, it’s a tough one, ask me in a week. But it’s always up to taste.
I snagged a seat at 70mm IMAX, great, but foul play on selling tickets a year before to crazed Nolan fans that are the equivalent of Drake/Kendrick fans.
Overall I had a really good experience, I’m not the biggest Nolan fan and it left me longing for a bit more but that’s fine.

the movie isn’t even out yet but it already suckedass the second they dropped that cast list. the whole lineup they put together was an absolute mockery. there was not one single mediterranean or greek person in sight for the main roles. and hiring travis scott?? the actual fuck were they thinking with that one?

Went in without expectations and enjoyed it a lot. I think this movie is needed in these times
Added: I think this movie would be even better with lesser known actors

A disrespect to the Greek culture honestly 😭 Troy was much better than whatever this was.

The Odyssey
They completely skipped the wind bag. Odysseus never exposes himself to Polyphemus. There’s a random second fight scene with made up enemies. The armor looked unrealistic. The gods are hardly shown expect Athena here and there. No Hermes either

I hope everyone yapping about the casting shits their pants in public and gets absolutely humiliated because this was insane.
This movie was eye candy ofc, but the SOUND OH MY GOD. Some parts of the movie felt like i was watching a horror film.
The cyclops looked amazing and disgusting and horrifying holy shmoly.
Everyone did great.
Top tier aura farming thank you Christopher Nolan. The buildup was great for an even greater finale

Problem with Nolan movies is that my expectations are now unreasonably high! Overall it was very good and didn’t feel like a long 3 hours, though it took me about 20 minutes to start to really get into it
I sometimes got taken out of the moment when I’d see the star studded cast that was almost too stacked and couldn’t help but think “ok here’s Jason Bourne reuniting with spider-man and catwoman but they need to deal with 2022 Batman first. While Travis Scott tells a story.”

As a Nolan fan I wanted this to be amazing. Unfortunately it wasn’t even close. Virtually nothing about this massacre of Homer’s epic worked for me.

This will be remembered as an undying feat of cinematic achievement. The scale at which this film goes to adapt such a legendary story, the length Nolan goes to stay not only true to himself but to the work of art he has control over, the talent of the crew he gathered to produce this film, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. For two days since seeing this film I have watched with blissful eyes the level of practicality that went into making this film, the sheer amount of on location, practical asset usage, and literal, REAL, examples of not only traversal but action has completely blown me away. Act 1 plays with your mind, it seems incomplete all while it crescendos into the beast that is the 2nd act. You’re wiped out, it’s 3 hours long, yet act 3 is a straight jab of adrenaline. This film goes above and beyond to maintain your desire to want to see more, it triggers something special in me that I just am appreciative of. Matt Damon is one of the greats, Himesh Patel steals every scene he’s in, Corey Hawkins maximizes every ounce of screentime he has, Tom Holland blew me away, I sincerely didn’t think he had it in him, Anne Hathaway continues to prove she is still at the top of her game; the cast is in every ounce of the term, a masterful ensemble. However, one person stands out, not a cast but a crew. It’s time we consider Ludwig Göransson in the GOAT conversation. What this man does in this film, what he is able to achieve with sound, is sensational. A bit of trivia but Nolan denied him an ORCHESTRA. Ludwig did this without a composer’s greatest tool, he pulled a masterpiece of a score out of his own creative engine. Believe it or not even I could go on, Nolan deserves that, he made something special here. An epic for an epic, I thank him for keeping cinema pure and alive. 5/5
