Turning Red

I have no problem with talking about periods and puberty in a kids movie, I think that part’s great. What isn’t great is we’ve seen this same plot a thousand times and done much better

A bit bland for my taste. Lacks the emotional punch that we’ve come to expect and love from PIXAR. Still a decent movie though 🤷‍♂️

In between like and love, something was just missing for me for most of the movie but the ending pushed it above a like for me. also, why did 4*town’s music actually slap i may or may not be adding to my playlist 🤨👀

6.7 - This was not one I ever anticipated rewatching, but it was kids’ second choice for movie night, & I enjoyed it so much less than Hoppers on rewatch it’s hard to believe they’re both from the same studio.

It still has its charms, & the general messaging is still good, if a little too on the nose, but I was so much more off-put by the family dynamics this time. The overprotection, helicopter style of parenting while maybe the point, was excessive, & the storyline of the passing of family trauma is so tired in Disney and Pixar’s recent era. And this just doesn’t stand up to the others in most of the key ways.

7.1 - Shame this movie is viewed as “problematic” and/or “unrelateable” by many. It’s got a few on the nose metaphors but it also has great lessons for both kids & adults, fun music, & great voice acting. Not top tier Pixar for me, but still a cute, well animated movie.
