This is another like really fun horror movie to watch bc it’s campy and an interesting concept and the story is stupid but like in a fun way

I picked this out of multiple “truth or dare”s bc I thought I recognized this one from something. After starting it I think I might have already seen it. Near the end, a lot of gore happened, and I didn’t remember it. So either I never finished it, or it was mid and I forgot. 1/2

I actually really loved this. The relationship dynamics and cinematic timing really seal the deal

2.7 - why is the approval so high here? It’s a bit wild that two movies with the same name & general premise came out within months over each other and both are terrible.
Unfortunately, this is even worse than the Blumhouse version that came after. I have to think people are rating this for that version even though the difference between the two is negligible.
This version is nearly unwatchable for the first act when they clunkily introduce each character & involve them in an evil version of this game with no lead up or exposition of any kind, & one of the most inorganic scripts I’ve seen in a long time. At least Blumhouse’s version has a little information about how they get involved in the game.
After the first act, the kills amp up, & there’s at least a bit of the gore you expect of this type of movie. But unfortunately, none of these characters are likable or memorable really, except maybe Harvey Guillen who provides a little bit of comedic relief but is way too sidelined overall.
Lastly, I think what hurts the most is the lack of consistency to the dares & their intensity. This type of game should ramp up, but instead it didn’t stick to any form of rules, just went in an up & down pattern of intensity without any clear respect for order? This is where Blumhouse’s version really shines, comparatively, giving that version a semblance of structure to follow & a much cleaner resolution.

It was a creepy, low budget horror that actually delivered some solid scares. The tension kept building, and the twisty dares made it fun to watch. It surprised me in a good way!
