Trapezium (2024) - A Heartfelt, Yet Imperfect Coming-of-Age Musical Drama
Rated: 7/10
"Trapezium" is a poignant coming-of-age musical drama anime film that explores the aspirations and challenges of a high school girl determined to become an idol. Directed by Masahiro Shinohara, known for his work on "Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World", and written by Yuko Kakihara, known for "Buddy Daddies" and "Blue Box", the film boasts a talented cast and impressive musical numbers.
The story follows a young girl who embarks on a journey to become an idol, facing numerous obstacles along the way. As she navigates the cutthroat entertainment industry, she befriends aspiring stars from different backgrounds, learning valuable lessons about perseverance, friendship, and the true meaning of her shining ambition.
One of the standout aspects of "Trapezium" is its memorable soundtrack, composed by Masaru Yokoyama. The film's musical numbers are catchy, energetic, and emotionally resonant, perfectly capturing the protagonist's passion and determination.
The animation, produced by CloverWorks, is vibrant and expressive, bringing the film's characters and world to life. The studio's attention to detail is impressive, particularly in the film's musical sequences.
However, the film's narrative is somewhat predictable, and the characters, while likable, feel slightly underdeveloped. The pacing is also a bit uneven, with some scenes feeling rushed and others dragging on for too long.
Overall, "Trapezium" is a heartfelt, yet imperfect coming-of-age musical drama anime film. While it boasts a memorable soundtrack, impressive animation, and a poignant story, its predictable narrative and underdeveloped characters hold it back from reaching its full potential.
