Train Dreams
If this doesn't get nominated for at least best cinematography, sound, adaptation, and actor, I'll be devastated. The editing, composition, emotion, dialogue, casting, costuming, characters, and locations all feel beautiful, natural, and devoid of box office commercialism. Almost like an extremely evocative documentary. Alone yet loved, frightened yet astonished, broken yet honest, guilty yet helpless, starved yet strong. The story's progression is a metaphor for life itself. The beginning echoes the end, though its depth differs drastically. It's a lethargically heavy watch, but I still recommend it.

Maybe the most I’ve cried during a movie before. This film is simultaneously comforting and incredibly melancholic. While the story is simple and slowly paced , it truly makes you feel how life can slip by you, but the lack of big moments doesn’t make it any less worth living

“We’re but children of this earth, pulling bolts out of the Ferris wheel thinking ourselves to be gods.” Netflix outdid itself yet again!

This does a really good job at making you feel really small, and through the MC’s journey it really gives you that melancholic comfort in realizing that’s what makes life beautiful. The MC essentially struggles against being lost his whole life in the perspective of life’s grand…

8.5 - Though this didn’t emotionally wreck me like I anticipated, I was moved & despite the heavy subject matter it was one I at times wished I could just sit in for hours.
The quietness of the story & the settings, & the weight of Joel Edgerton’s performance fully captured the balance of emotion that just comes from living a normal life, highs & lows, to the best of one’s ability.
My biggest wish is that we had more time to spend with the power hitters in the support roles. William H. Macy’s very short screen time packed a huge punch with his ability to accept the beauty in the struggle around him, & Kerry Condon’s short screen time ranked up there with John Carroll Lynch in Sorry, Baby for one of the most crucial & moving moments delivered at the perfect time for their stories that I’ve ever seen. The combination of her existential viewpoints & their tender delivery helped round out Robert Grainier’s story arc flawlessly.
It’s one I will absolutely want to watch again, & I’m so thankful I was able to take this viewing in on the big screen.

Fair warning, this is slow and won’t appeal to everyone especially if you need lots of action. It’s an unremarkable story about a relatively unremarkable life (like most of us) and all that life brings. It’s basically an hour and a half of beautiful meditation.

An interesting film but depressing, this one reminds me the movie Manchester By The Sea but this is not as dramatic as the MBTS. Great performance from Joel Edgerton. It’s important that everyone who wants to watch this movie knows that is slow, no action… just introspection.

Artfully moving. Masterfully executed. Emotional roller coaster. Human existentialism.

I’m rating this before even finishing the movie, if there’s anything that makes me change this rating from here till the end i’ll do it, but it’s probably the most boring film i’ve ever seen
edit: forgot to mention that i found the dialogues very corny

What a beautiful movie, so sad yet hopeful at the same time. I’d love to see this win at least one Oscar. Joel Edgerton does a phenomenal job of portraying a broken character trying to find his place in the world and what to make of it. The score and cinematography are beautiful. Oscar worthy movie for sure.
