this is almost a like, i promise, but i couldn’t settle into the story the way i wanted to. it’s absolutely breathtaking in every way and binoche is stunning. the way the film portrays grief is startlingly raw. i think for whatever reason it just didn’t connect with me.

Had the random urge to start the Three Colours trilogy today. I hadn’t actually heard too much about these films, only really that they’re held to a high regard.

What an incredible experience. It handles grief, a common theme in films, in a way in which I hadn’t really experienced before. The ‘Blue’ is supposed to indicate ‘Liberty’ - only its emotional liberty opposed to political or social. It’s explored, in conjunction with grief, in fascinating ways, there’s a decision made by Julie in the end which vindicates her struggle throughout the whole film - dropping the bitterness and detaching in a way which isn’t ’running away’ but more about truly letting go.

Juliette Binoche does a tremendous job, a very underrated actor in every sense. She plays Julie’s grief in an a very lowkey and almost scary and raw way. It’s never loud or materialised in a big way, but more letting it linger like a cloud - really great stuff.

Looking forward to watching White and Red - if they’re even half as good as this was then I’ll be in for a treat.

A bit slow at points but very beautifully shot and the color choice is incredible.

I was expecting one slap to any of the people who disrespected her! But nada lol

a masterful portrayal of grief with otherworldly visuals and a tremendous score. the film contains the beauty, kindness, and melancholy of its lead actress, always making bold choices that amplify the experience. self assured and intelligent, quite wonderful

Ive discovered a new favorite filmmaker

Not saying it's a bad movie, just a little too artsy for MY taste. The use of color is expectedly amazing, and Binoche is always at the top of her game, but the story just doesn't keep me interested. But if you like art films, then you will probably love it

A visual and emotional masterpiece that accurately depicts grief and moving on in life. The cinematography is incredible and the operatic score is beautiful. A must watch

what a gem

The cinematography and the music/sounds are incredible. Since the story is very simple and linear everything happens on a psychological level. It is all about dealing with loss and grief.
