Amazing filmmaking but tough watch. The epitome of “show don’t tell.” Most effective part was the contrast between the family’s ideal life scored by the distant sounds of the atrocities from the camp. Interesting choice of Nazi POV to humanize the situation

8.9 - harrowing & heavy watch not helped by its pace or runtime which really make you sit with what you’re witnessing. The details tell the story - the sound, the careful & casual dialogue, the way it’s filmed. A movie of show not tell, making it unique in a saturated subgenre.

Some of the greatest sound design ever put to film. Imagery is so immensely powerful yet never shows the atrocities first hand. The filmmaking is innovative and mesmerising. The way the screenplay conveys such emotion with hardly an actual plot is beyond impressive. Timely.

Truly one of the most accurate depictions of Auschwitz. You feel the terror and pain without ever being shown a single shot of the inside of the camp

As others have said, this is so harrowing and upsetting. Seeing the way they speak about such horrific things so casually and as a part of their daily lives is shocking. It’s a very visceral film.

I didn’t love the last act, though, as it felt very disconnected from the story, following Hoss away from the others. I wish it would have had us sit in that discomfort more, but I found it overall to be a fascinating way to tell what is often a very familiar story.
