A touching and powerful film featuring Mikey Rourke’s best performance.

Mickey Rourke is incredible in this. It’s quite a sad film with moments of levity sprinkled throughout. It was awesome to see some of the behind the scenes of semi-pro/pro wrestling because I’m not very familiar with it. Amazing ending too.

Mickey O’Rourke is perfect in this tragic story about a man who is chasing his past. This was a surprise hit for me.

“ITS STILL REAL TO ME DAMNIT!” 😭 this movie perfectly captures the often tragic and lonely life of a pro wrestler past his prime. Even after the heartbreaks and heart attack, The Ram would rather die than be anything else. motivational shit man

Really left a daze in me

Genuinely one of the saddest films I’ve seen, no that it’ll make you cry - but just that’s it’s a very depressing tale.

Really great script, the whole thing just plays really, really well. It walks a similar path to Black Swan in its tale of obsession at the cost of everything. The handheld usage works really well for this sort of thing and doesn’t suffer from horrible shaky camera as a result of it.

Mickey Rourke is tremendous. I heard he was good here, but I just haven’t seen him operating anywhere this level beforehand. Would have been interesting to see how his career would have continued should he have won the Best Actor award, I’m yet to see Milk - but Sean Penn had won before.

Another great film from Aronofsky, he has always been great at capturing these personal tales. Still need to see Mother! That looks very up my street.
