Very creepy but also kinda sad :( I watched this back when it first came out and for some reason I didn’t really care for it much, so I’m glad I rewatched it bc it’s actually so good. Now I need to reread the book too 😤 Also, Victorian Daniel Radcliffe 😳🤭😮💨👌🏼🤌🏻

The Woman in Black
Rating: 6.6/10
The Woman in Black is a beautifully crafted and atmospheric gothic ghost story that's a successful exercise in old-school horror. Director James Watkins delivers a creepy and dread-soaked film with a phenomenal production design and strong performances.
Highlights
- Gothic Atmosphere: The film's atmosphere is phenomenal, with a masterful build-up of creeping dread and a creepy setting.
- Strong Performances: Daniel Radcliffe shines as the grieving lawyer Arthur Kipps, and the supporting cast is excellent.
- Technical Highlights: The sound design and score are major highlights, effectively building suspense and creating a haunting atmosphere.
Criticisms
- Jump Scares: The film relies too heavily on loud, telegraphed jump scares, which can feel cheap and undercut the tension.
- Predictable Plot: The story is fairly standard and predictable, and the ending is a departure from the novel's bleak conclusion.
Verdict
The Woman in Black is a solid and effectively spooky gothic horror film that's a must-see for fans of classic, atmospheric ghost stories. Despite some flaws, its stunning production design, creepy mood, and strong lead performance make it a worthwhile and frightening watch.
