i thought it was dumb, over the top, campy, nasty and funny… which is exactly what i wanted from this movie
it was really stupid and had a lot of offensive humor (i know that’s the point) but melvin and sara were so sweet that i enjoyed myself and could laugh at the absurdity

Best campy body horror classic based on good ole NJ

It was okay? Usually the type of thing I adore but for some reason this one just didn’t hit for me. Toxic Avenger had some decent moments but for the most part it didn’t hit.

I expected a standard 80s B-movie, but the unhinged mix of gory horror and goofy superhero tropes totally caught me off guard.

What Worked:
Practical makeup and chaotic blocking give the film a grimy texture. Blending black comedy with slasher violence feels like a twisted comic book. Through my Methodist faith lens, seeing this bullied outcast protect the vulnerable beautifully mirrors my beliefs about finding purpose and extending grace, even when the world treats you like a monster.

The Cuts:
The middle part really dragged for me while Toxie just wanders around fighting random bad guys. The stiff acting totally pulled me out of the story. Keeping it spoiler-free, the bullies’ early crimes feel way too mean-spirited and cross into genuinely unsettling territory.

Verdict:
A messy, gory B-movie with heart. Fun if you love practical effects, but skip if you hate extreme violence.

Favorite Line: “He’s the monster hero!”

I absolutely loved this movie. Is it cheesy and over the top? Uh, yeah. That’s the whole point. Cannot wait to see the others.

Surprisingly well shot for an independent movie from the 80s. Acting is laughable but the characters were quite funny

Malisimamente buena

I love how this film doesn’t take itself too seriously and underneath all the schlocky gore and aggressive camera mugging, there is still some sincerity within it.

So ridiculous, horrid, and heartfelt at the same time. I had so much fun watching this. The balance of good and evil felt nuanced, and this movie just really pushed boundaries. Loved it
