The Starling
I’m used to Melissa being in comedies but this heartfelt movie is really good and I appreciate the symbolism that is also used throughout the movie. 8.7 out of 10

The Starling
Watching The Starling felt deeply personal to me, not just because of what I’ve been through, but because of how far I’ve come.
As a mother who lost her son to SIDS, I once carried an overwhelming sense of guilt constantly replaying moments and questioning everything. The film captures that stage of grief with honesty and care, showing how heavy and isolating those feelings can be. But what truly stood out to me wasn’t just the pain, it was the beginning of healing.
I’m no longer in that place of guilt, and seeing that reflected on screen was incredibly moving. The Starling doesn’t rush the process or pretend everything becomes okay. Instead, it shows something much more real: that healing is gradual, messy, and different for everyone. The characters aren’t fixed, but they reach a point where moving forward feels possible and that’s a beautiful thing.
Melissa McCarthy delivers a quiet, grounded performance that really captures what it means to exist in grief and slowly find your way through it. The film also highlights how people can grieve differently, and how reconnecting both with yourself and others is part of that journey.
For me, this film wasn’t just about loss. It was about resilience. It reminded me that while grief never fully disappears, it can soften. You can grow around it. You can carry love forward without being held in the same pain.
The Starling is a gentle, emotional film about loss, healing, and finding a way to live again. And for me, it reflected not just where I’ve been, but where I am now.

Melissa McCartney is known for comedy movies, but this movie was amazing with her playing a serious role but some humor along the way! A must watch ❤️

The Starling
A really beautiful movie about how people grieve differently. Regardless of how we grieve we all need others to lean on, and eventually we learn to live despite the loss. The cast is great and deliver moving and humorous moments. Sometimes the bird CGI is not so great.

relied HEAVILY on the score to get the audience to “feel” the scene. i felt like i was being treated like a stupid movie watcher, & upset that the actor’s performances weren’t able to shine at all. really disappointed
