The Siege

Relevant in todays climate. Denzels back must hurt from carrying that film. Overall - 3/10

Ah, not great, The Siege goes a bit too silly for me. Narrative decisions were so excessive that it’s actually hard to take it serious, but then it strangely takes what it’s doing too seriously to be considered a campy-action-thriller. It’s a messy attempt at being socially relevant, cramming too many ideas onto a page than it’s got space to flesh it out. That said, a lot of it, especially around the Government discrimination, is scarily relevant right now.

Denzel’s charisma is just nuts though… feel like I say it every time but man he’s so good. Benning is also pretty impressive here, playing the ambiguity of her character really convincingly. Bruce Willis is criminally underused and even when he is, the character is incredibly one dimensional.

I can sort of appreciate the film’s intentions, but its lack of control in storytelling is destructive by all accounts. Praise to Denzel though, obvs!

Without a great performance from Denzel this is a pretty bad over politicised film
