The Night of the Hunter

The film didn't have much tension as I'd hoped at first, but it did pick up in the second act. The heartwarming moments for these kids in the third act were great. When Rachel Cooper pulled out the shotgun, iconic right there.

The night of the Hunter is one of the greatest works of American Cinema to come out of the 1950s. It is beautifully written, and the shots are both stunning and chilling. The use of shadows especially, almost Caligarian in nature really brought everything together. 9/10

iconic. worth watching even just to appreciate the sideshow bob episode of the simpsons a little more. the underwater river scene is absolutely terrifying

It’s unimaginably well shot. I’m not sure about the ending but overall it’s amazingly experimental for its age, even now it would feel new.

Absolutely brilliant thriller. To say this was the only film Charles Laughton ever directed he directs it like a master. Incredible performance from Robert Mitchum and some amazing child performances which we all know don’t go too well. It’s short, tense and brilliant
