The Night of the Hunter

The film didn't have much tension as I'd hoped at first, but it did pick up in the second act. The heartwarming moments for these kids in the third act were great. When Rachel Cooper pulled out the shotgun, iconic right there.

The night of the Hunter is one of the greatest works of American Cinema to come out of the 1950s. It is beautifully written, and the shots are both stunning and chilling. The use of shadows especially, almost Caligarian in nature really brought everything together. 9/10

Absolutely brilliant thriller. To say this was the only film Charles Laughton ever directed he directs it like a master. Incredible performance from Robert Mitchum and some amazing child performances which we all know don’t go too well. It’s short, tense and brilliant

a certified “horror” classic that holds up in nearly every regard. razor-sharp filmmaking with absolutely gorgeous shots and sets, alongside terrific writing and acting. can be slow, but remains interesting the whole way through
