The New Mutants

Yeah this movie had many flaws but there’s a lesbian werewolf who watches Buffy the Vampire Slayer so I don’t think I’m capable of not loving it. Really couldn’t stand Illyana which sucks because I love Anya Taylor-Joy

It was pretty good I just wished we actually saw them find the town

This movie got off to a real rough start but I ended up not hating it as much as I initially thought I was going to. There were some good character moments and I liked some of the horror elements but the plot was weird and I don’t think I’ll really want to ever watch this again

Loved the horror aspect of this movie and magik is a baddie

I threw this on expecting a gritty X-Men take, but it felt like a confused mashup of a teen angst drama and a haunted house movie.

The Director’s Eye:
Using a real abandoned asylum created a genuinely creepy, claustrophobic vibe. The dim lighting gives it a grounded look compared to glossy superhero flicks. As a conservative, I liked the theme of fighting your inner demons, though the teen romance definitely strays from traditional, family-friendly values. Anya Taylor-Joy is the absolute standout, bringing much-needed edge. Snow's eerie score fits the spooky hospital perfectly.

The Cuts:
The pacing is a total mess. The characters just wander around complaining, so the middle part really dragged for me. The unpolished CGI monsters completely ripped me out of the illusion. You can literally feel the chaotic production history on screen; between the endless delays and corporate mergers, the final product is super disjointed.

Verdict:
A messy, heavily delayed spin-off that can't decide what it wants to be. I'd skip it.

Favorite Line: “This isn't a hospital. It's a cage.”

i think there was a cool premises in there somewhere. if only they had made a completely different film it could have been good.
