If you haven’t followed Orson Welles’ work, you’ll probably find this movie boring. But if you’re familiar with his films, you’ll realize it’s a hidden gem that hardly anyone talks about. This was Welles’ second film (after Citizen Kane) as director, screenwriter, and narrator, although he does not appear as an actor.

As expected, the performances are theatrical and filled with intrigue. The film portrays how a wealthy family that seems to have everything eventually loses it all. Themes such as the death of parents, personal growth, and the transition into adulthood play a crucial role in the story, making it a thought-provoking experience.

The transitions, special effects, and long takes all play an important role in the film’s visual storytelling, showcasing Welles’ distinctive filmmaking style.
