good ass movie

4.9 - As an animated movie it’s ok, forgettable but serviceable. However, an adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s book, this is a HUGE misfire. The message, when presented to its target audience is almost completely lost. The bones are there but it’s so bare, convoluted, & hollow under so much unnecessary filler. And ending on a note of “oh as long as someone cares, they’ll do something” instead of an open-ended push of responsibility to the reader is the most egregious misstep. The voice acting is just ok for such a loaded cast, except the Lorax himself. Danny DeVito playing characters that vaguely look like Danny DeVito will always hit. The songs are decent, though not having the eventual world’s biggest pop star sing on your movie’s signature song is terrible foresight. And I actually think Illumination’s art style fits the Seussiverse well. Just after missing on The Grinch and this, PLEASE stay away from Horton Hears a Who.

Tbh this is one of the better Illumination movies, but that doesn’t say much. The animation is probably the best part, but the music and VA’s lack any life. The only reason I remember this movie so fondly are the memes
