either my hearing is shit OR 50% OF THE DIALOGUE WAS UNINTELLIGIBLE OMG. concise storytelling. brutal deaths. really nice cinematography. wish we got to see more of the world, but that wouldn’t have made things concise ig, cause it gave me 1984/fahrenheit 451 vibes at times.

The movie was amazing, but that’s not the reason it’s 5 stars, while it’s a 4 and half star movie, the reason it’s a 5 is because it will always hold a special place in my heart for the story of how I ended up watching it,

This is the story

I’ve never really been wanted in a friend group, I was always an extra or never in one, or even at some points not wanted, and it’s been like that ever since I started high school, now it gets lonely not belonging somewhere, to the point I had forgotten what it felt like to be welcomed and wanted, this is why The Long Walk is special to me,

As in school I was always the person who was the backup friend for everyone in a friend group, the person they talk to when no one else is available, and because of this I have friends across all different parts of the school, but not in once place,

Today I was working a shift at the cinema I work at in my free time, when I saw some people outside I recognised, I greeted them and they were like ayyyy this guy, like they were actually happy to see me, then they went to go and watch the movie, two other people who I’m cool with came in and since I wasn’t gonna use them, I let them go in for free in exchange for my comp tickets I get from working there,

When they went in and barley anyone else was there, they invited me in to watch it with them, I watched the movie, and not only did we all enjoy it together I even looked around a bit to realise, no one minded I was there for once, it felt like I actually belonged, after not being wanted for almost 16 years, the movie eventually ended and they said their goodbyes, but then walked home with me, but I will never forget that feeling of being liked for who I am.

10/10 experience, one of the greatest days of my life.

For as simplistic of a plot that this truly had, they executed it perfectly. I feared for the character development and connection to them but was very pleased. Fantastic acting from all. My one gripe was, I kid you not, the last 30 seconds. Felt too cliche. Superb movie though!

I thought this was going to be another film that came and went, but I was wrong. There was quality into this, and most of the credit hast to go to the actors cause they were great.

honestly close to a love but not quite there.

it’s absolutely terrifying, with quite some amount of gore. the vfx was really fucking good.

ps. don’t eat and watch. ( you’ll thank me later)

from having a very straightforward plot they executed it really well. my only complaint is that ending left me with a bad taste.

would’ve loved to see both garraty & peter win tbh. even better having the chance to witness garraty be reunited with his mom after the walk.

i had a feeling peter was going to want the same wish. but honestly i felt like the end to the walk was not fulfilling at all to me. a lot was missing and wrong.

every actor in the walk performed really well especially cooper & david.

the writing was absolutely incredible till the end.

decent watch but wouldn’t rewatch.

8.6 - This is a really late review, but it’s absolutely clarified for me how much I enjoyed this movie.

It’s bleak and dystopian and absolutely leaves an impression. I found the core moments fairly predictable - a small line here giving away a character’s fate later, a helping hand early being paid back at the most crucial moment - those were pretty obvious to me, but the care & humanity poured into these characters, by the leads, that we didn’t get a lot of time to meet before they’re thrust into the competition is more than enough to outweigh the overly traditional story structures. It does get a little heavy handed & overwritten at the end, but it didn’t bother me too much because in today’s world sometimes we unfortunately need to be hit in the face with the point more than I’d like to admit.

David Jonsson gives the best performance of the movie, carrying so many of the most emotional moments, & Cooper Hoffman is proving with each role he plays that he has every bit of the abilities of his father. And I hope soon enough it won’t be first instinct to compare the two. There are also some really moving & memorable performances delivered throughout the rest of the supporting cast, despite most of them getting so little time on screen.

I’m also hardly even mentioning how well it is shot & scored, feeling fairly immersive, which seems incredibly difficult for this specific setting.

I don’t know how often I’ll revisit something like this. I’m not sure there’s a ton more to pull from it. But it was definitely good enough that when my first viewing was interrupted by a theater emergency it was a no-brainer to drive across town & sit through the first 2/3s again instantly. And it was absolutely worth it.

I WAS SO STRESSED THE WHOLE MOVIE. wow. i absolutely loved the dialogue and how each character brought something to the table. 🙌🙌

VERY pleased with this movie. Every time I've read a book and watched the adaptation afterwards, I’ve been disappointed, but hey, third times the charm bitches! I think the changes they made to the book actually made the story better, specifically the ending portion of the film!

Very unrealistic, but creative concept and good execution.
Some of the dialogue was awful, lot of mumbling. Also they would not talk so much and they wouldn’t be wearing jeans ffs.

The runtime for this actually felt like a run, considering 90% of it is walking. Near enough every Stephen King novel is bleak, byzantine, and brutal. Expect nothing different from this. The premise and violence are brutal, the environment and metaphors are byzantine, and the mood and characters are bleak. As joyful or loving as elements might be, prepare to be left feeling broken and barren. I love the score, imagery, allegories, and casting, although certain performances and accents felt somewhat off. I've not read the book, but the writing overall could have been stronger and less ambiguous. Not bad, but far from King's best.

STRONG 9/10, loved this movie. Very emotional, impactful, deep, and amazing. It’s a must watch.

Simple concept for such a great movie.

a concept that’s been explored before but i’d say this executed it in a pretty unique way
the violence happens and is moved on from so quick that it forces you to sit with your thoughts
i was interested in the dynamic of the group and liked the relationship between ray and pete
