really fucking class film, starting off a bit weird but then it had me

One of the greatest British gangster films of all time

Great music and performances especially from Hoskins and Mirren, the story was overall a very engaging gangster mystery

very slow opening with a lack of dialogue that felt cinematographically indulgent but honestly laid the ground work for a powerful third act. so much happened in the last 20 minutes. jeff was a greedy idiot. pierce brosnan popping up was hilarious to me. soundtrack 10/10

Perhaps the best British crime film ever made? The ending scene would most definitely imply it. Bob Hoskins at his peak of acting ability he is absolutely terrific. The atmosphere and specifically British dialogue make for a watch that is a great deal of fun to experience

Good film with Bob Hoskins in his first big role. I found that the first seven sequences appear to be random scenes strung together but the film really picks up after those sequences. The classic conclusion is arguably the best part of the entire film.
