Sure it’s beautiful but the acting and singing are very mediocre. This was definitely not a passion project for anyone

I remember watching this in cinema and being torn limb by limb by the vfx/sfx. The animalistic tendencies and percise behaviours...if a caveman saw this there's no doubt in my mind they'd fall into a life-threatening state of shock. It makes you question where we'll be in another 20 years, so I unavoidably embrace these live-action versions. That being said an achievement doesn't necessarily guarantee a good time. I didn't grow up on the original but I've always despised the soundtrack, it feels like Zazu pecking directly into my brain. Over-exposing every character makes me think the original audience was forgotten, and the camera panning and fading out drove me wild with boredom. Misses a lot more than hits.

Most live actions either add something, or change something, or are identical to the Disney original. This one was too similar to have added anything, but different enough to simply irritate. The CGI was outstanding and worth watching once just for that.

Probably didn’t need to happen, but it did and the visuals could have been better ..

Turns out I can't settle for a Lion King without James Earl Jones (and for a more personal preference, one without the birdy boiler). The music is really good, of course not on Elton John level. Yet I have to admit Beyonce did a good job.

inevitably less emotions than for the cartoon, but this version brings something else, the beauty of a film and my god this film is magnificent, but otherwise the music, the adventures and the emotions will always transport us as much

I honestly don’t know how I feel about these live action Disney movies. They’re good because the original animations are good. These movies just feel like a cash grab and offer nothing new.

People talk a lot of smack about this live action and I feel like it’s actually very well done. There’s a lot of elements from the original, but it is not meant to be an carbon copy. It’s hard to do, but watch it without the first movie in mind, and give it its own chance.

I do like the cinematography in this movie but the animals just aren’t expressive, I get what they were trying to do but it didn’t really work. I’d say watch the original because it’s basically beat for beat the same thing. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.

The Lion King
The 2019 film is a photorealistic computer-generated remake of the 1994 animated classic. The film boasts stunning visuals, with meticulously crafted environments and characters that bring the African savannah to life. The voice cast, including Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé as Nala, delivers strong performances that add depth and emotion to the story.
The film's narrative remains faithful to the original, with Simba's journey from cub to king serving as the central plot. The film's themes of identity, responsibility, and the circle of life are timeless and continue to resonate with audiences.
However, some viewers may find the film's reliance on nostalgia and familiarity to be a drawback. The film's lack of innovation and risk-taking may make it feel overly familiar and predictable.

7.4 - unlike many, I don’t dislike this, I actually think the “live action” animation is incredibly done - lifelike without feeling uncanny. The added bits of story, especially centered around the happenings at Pride Rock when Simba’s gone, are decent. And there seems to be a solid amount of respect for the original here.
But I don’t love all the cast choices. I miss a couple of the core moments from the original (namely the hula scene traded for Be Our Guest). And there’s a level of magic missing. It’s just not as bright & fun. It’s wholly unnecessary, & to a degree, that makes it feel like as much of a soulless money grab as anything Disney has done in the past few years despite it being well done.
Its biggest struggle is being held to the standard of Disney’s crown jewel, & that puts it in a hole that may be impossible to climb out of no matter how well it is executed.
