literary character cross-over fanfic in film form (yes i know it was a graphic novel first, but still). so silly & campy & fun. i would not say it was a good film but it had its good moments. perfect for fans of classic literature & comics.

ugh i watch this every time for dorian i swear

It is everywhere and so corny and so 2000 i still need to read the comic but yeah, one of my Favorit movies

I hoped for a fun Victorian Avengers team-up, but messy execution totally seeped in. It pushed Sean Connery into retirement!

The Director’s Eye:
The gloomy Victorian streets gave me fantastic visual inspiration. As a conservative valuing classic literature, I loved seeing Quatermain impart old-school honor onto a brasher generation. The booming dieselpunk soundscape is also pretty epic.

The Cuts:
The script juggles too many characters, so the middle part really dragged for me. The early 2000s CGI is atrocious; Mr. Hyde looked completely unfinished. You can literally feel how miserable this set was. The studio totally butchered the comic to force a generic blockbuster.

Verdict:
A massive missed opportunity wasting a phenomenal premise on bad CGI and studio meddling. Skip it.

Favorite Line: “May this new century be yours, as the old one was mine.”

A thrilling, imaginative mash-up, bringing literary icons together like a supernatural Avengers. Seeing them battle, strategize & interact is a unique treat. While the story is flawed, the fun concept & clever team dynamics make it enjoyable for fans of fantastical crossovers.

Many of us know Sir Sean Connery as James Bond. But in this role, he also convinces. Theres also ancient which is used which should not exist back then 🥲😅. For example a fancy car. Just watch the movie. It’s worth it.

Nostalgia carries this movie so hard for me. It id a weird concept but for what it is, it is excellently made. (Beware of that last part since i saw it some years ago)

I have not read the source material but commend its concept however I do not hesitate to pan this film

The best way I can think to describe it is Avengers Endgame, but without all the lead up films that build drama and a love for the characters.

I enjoyed it. The cast I felt was fitting especially Sean. The story is based on a comic book series, definitely could have been better if they spanned it out to give the story more depth. I feel this definitely could be good as a tv series or movie series if it got rebooted.
