This movie was badass.

6.2 - decent but could have been great. Awesome set up, cool moments, well-designed & effective sets, & cool creature design. Terrible pace, uneven writing. Felt reminiscent of old school monster movies but with something significant missing.

A nautical nightmare based on a Dracula chapter sounded right up my alley. I like this; turning the vampire tale into a monster-on-a-ship slasher mostly pays off.

The Director's Eye (What Worked):
• Botet’s makeup is terrifying, making Dracula look like a feral bat-creature instead of a guy in a cape.
• Trapping the crew mid-ocean builds strong isolation where nobody is safe.
• McCreary’s score fits the bleak maritime vibe.

The Friction (What Didn't Click for Me):
• It drags, leaning on repetitive scenes of crewmen wandering in the dark.
• Knowing the ship washes up empty from the book and 2024’s Nosferatu makes the stakes predictable.

The Verdict:
I like it. Watch for moody horror. Skip if slow pacing kills the vibe.

It was a good movie, but it would’ve been so much better if they kept Dracula an unseen villain until the third act. The reason Log of the Demeter was so good is because they didn’t know what was happening, there was just this general unease and impending doom until they lost too many people and it was too late to do anything. The horror was in not seeing, in not knowing how it was happening.

super solid dracula movie with some very effective scares and some truly gory scenes that are hard to watch but the plot just felt a little lack luster to me and then it just kinda of ended - super fun action and some good acting tho
