The Last Duel
The tri-perspective story emphatically works. It also has the benefit of making room for three excellent performances from the leads.

The Last Duel
The acting was great but the plot of the movie was a bit confused with showing 3 different perspectives. A tad bit overrated.

The Last Duel
I liked this movie a lot. In the first half I wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but the last half really had my attention and was very entertaining. I liked the uniqueness of telling the same story from 3 different perspectives. You assume the story is all about Matt Damon & Adam Driver (Jean & Jacque) but the 2nd half shows you the movie is truly all about the female lead and feeling bad for her, as well as getting angry about how delusional and controlling men especially of that time could be. It also shows how a different perspective could really alter how history was told. I think the only thing that may hold it back is that the first two perspectives are a little long and boring and it can be a little difficult to remember the details and the differences between stories
The movie takes place in Hundred Years’ war era France (1380) and tells 3 different perspectives of a rape accusation. The first perspective is from Matt Damon (Jean) who is a french knight who is struggling with his finances but marries a noblewoman Marguerite, whose father will pass on his wealth to them. Jean seems to be in a loving relationship with his wife and hears his wife has been raped and is very upset about it and takes Adam Driver (Jacque) to trial about it. They will now duel to the death to let god decide. Then it tells Adam Driver (Jacque)’s perspective. He sees Jean as a terrible man and is in love with Marguerite. She makes some passes at him and he accepts them, and although he does force himself on her she seems to be mildly ok with it.
Then you get to Marguerite’s perspective which seemingly tells the real story. It shows both men are terrible people and she is abused by both. The rape scene is a lot uglier and you really feel for her. Then they go to trial and she is pregnant, and you realize how delusional and corrupt men in power can be. Just because she said Jacque was handsome means they think she wanted it. And they also make up this fake science that woman can only conceive when they are pleasured meaning she enjoyed it. They decide they will duel and “let god decide” but if jean loses then Marguerite will be burned alive for lying. This makes the last duel scene very good with high stakes
jean wins so she doesn’t die. the movie is interesting because it doesn’t necessarily say which story is correct. Before Jacque dies he swears it was not rape which for a second makes you think he might be honest, but ultimately you believe Marguerite’s perspective to be true and feel for her

The Last Duel
Only a man would 🍇 a lady and then “confess” his sins right after 🤡
But I like the actors a lot and the story line so I’ll give it a 7/10
Adam Driver did a good job or being a villain because I almost hated him by the end of it 😭

The Last Duel
i thought the story telling structure was fresh & different having 3 different main characters show their side of the story with different perspectives was creative but i can see how it would make the film feel like it’s dragging on forever
