I honestly expected this movie to be terrible, but The House with a Clock in Its Walls was actually pretty enjoyable. The whole film has this weird, whimsical energy that reminded me a lot of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and I kind of ate that vibe up. It’s creepy without being too scary, magical without taking itself too seriously, and it fully embraces how strange it is.

And honestly… Jack Black is basically always just playing Jack Black in a different font 😭 but somehow that works perfectly here. His chaotic personality fits the movie’s goofy and magical atmosphere so well that I genuinely can’t imagine anyone else playing the role. He made the movie way more entertaining than it probably should’ve been.

The kid actor also kept reminding me of Young Sheldon the entire time 😭 I genuinely could not unsee it. But he was actually really likable, and I think the movie works because the characters are charming enough to keep you invested even when the plot gets kind of ridiculous.

Now, obviously this is a kids movie, so parts of the story are pretty silly and predictable, but I honestly didn’t mind. The movie knows exactly what it is and just leans into the fun of it all. It’s not some incredible masterpiece or anything, but it was way more entertaining than I expected. And one thing about me is I genuinely cannot force myself to finish a movie I’m not enjoying, so the fact that I watched the whole thing definitely says something.
