The Hobbit Reviews

Bilbo my spirit animal

A great, feel good film retelling one of the best stories written

Old and trippy animation. Lowkey a vibe

I love when Gandalf appears when he smells the grass 💨

I remember watching this in my family’s van while on a road trip with our portable tv with a VCR attached to it

“Revenge? You? HA! I am SMAUG! I kill when I wish! I am strong, strong, STRONG! My armor is like tenfold shields! My teeth are like swords! My claws, spears! The shock of my tail, a thunderbolt! My wings, a hurricane! And my breath... DEATH! Well? Where are your riddles now?”

charming but essentially the sparknotes of the book accompanied with some animation and a couple songs

I enjoyed this take on the Hobbit

I’m not sure there was a singular part of this movie that I liked aside from when it ended …

7/10 - 💍

7-8 hours summed into an hour it’s very entertaining great music.

Vary pretty, I’d watch it again

“I am Gandalf and Gandalf means Me!”

If Gandalf so great where were his smoke rings?

Rating: 7.3/10

A charming, nostalgic adaptation capturing the folky heart of Tolkien's novel.

Highlights
- Unique Visuals: Inspired by Arthur Rackham illustrations, with gritty, earthy character designs.
- Legendary Voices: John Huston, Brother Theodore, and Richard Boone deliver standout performances.
- Iconic Soundtrack: Folk-ballad theme "The Greatest Adventure" sets the tone.

Criticisms
- Fast Pacing: Short runtime rushes key plot points and omits some characters.
- Outdated Animation: May feel stiff and limited by modern standards.

Verdict
A fascinating piece of animation history and love letter to Tolkien's work. Recommended for Tolkien fans, 70s animation enthusiasts, and families.

All right, a little fast paced, elves look weird

I think I would’ve appreciated it more as a child, but it still was pretty good

This film was ahead of it’s time

Pretty good! I love the old animation

Ho ho my lads
