It’s a great great film! The acting was stupendous and the script was great. It was emphatic and made you think. A must watch underrated film.

Good movie with a perfect way to introduce some morals in the movie good acting good story and pretty good cinematography 7.5/10

This movie really surprised me. It was yet another classic case of aimlessly scrolling through Amazon Prime Video, looking for something to watch. And once again, we happened to pick a banger! This movie does a great job of balancing some very feel-good moments with incredibly pertinent societal commentary, and it does such an impressive job of successfully recreating the setting of the Jim Crow South in Texas.

The main thing that stuck out to me here was the collection of fantastic performances. Denzel Washington was great as always, but other standout performances include Jurnee Smollett, Nate Parker, and Forest Whitaker. Smollett in particular really stuck out to me, and I think her performance may have been my favorite overall.

One thing that I will say is that a lot of the time, the movie felt pretty predictable. It was quite rare throughout the film that I would genuinely be surprised by something that happens. Of course, that’s not to say that it never happened, but you have a pretty good idea of where the story is going as soon as you start watching the movie.

At the end of the day, I think the film just does such a great job of capturing such strong, powerful, and genuine emotion. This is a film created in 2007 based on a true story that took place in the 1930s. However, the social commentary is just as relevant and important today. Stories like this NEED to be told for progress to take place in society, and this film does a wonderful job.

It was a great movie and for some reason I couldn’t just get myself into the mindset of it. Movie wasn’t for me but was very well made

Very solid civil rights flick. Worth a step by mention in the conversation of mandatory viewings. Flies under the radar to this day. Don’t skip on it.

most of great plot for the time being…but honestly great movie to watch alone

as a debate kid myself, i wish there was more actual debating. but other than that, i absolutely adore this movie. it’s beautifully done
