The Girl with the Needle

This film definitely has some strong filmmaking, but I can admit that and still not really like it. The story just has so many underdeveloped themes, characters, and plot lines that it fails to ever keep me invested in what it’s trying to do. Still, way better than Emilia Pérez.

Relentlessly grim in what it’s depicting yet drenched in gorgeous cinematography. Such a topical subject given ongoing debates over reproductive rights. Not an easy watch for this year, but one of the best.
