Another one of my favorites, a stepping stone into watching animated series actually! Very sad and the animation was splendidly done! I would recommend this to any newcomers to animated films!

I expected a high school comedy, but its clever take on time travel completely wrecked me.

What Worked:
Hosoda’s editing during time loops captures the chaotic consequences of Makoto’s jumps without feeling repetitive. Through my Methodist faith lens, Makoto’s journey from selfishness to realizing she hurts others reminds me that maturity requires showing selfless grace. Yoshida and Oku’s music also perfectly anchors the heavy emotion.

The Cuts:
The middle part really dragged for me as Makoto frivolously repeats mundane things, stalling the narrative. Keeping it spoiler-free, the time-travel rules are super vague and feel half-baked. Plus, the slow-burn romance gets frustrating due to unnecessary drama and a lack of clear communication.

Verdict:
A brilliant coming-of-age story disguised as sci-fi. A must-watch for heartfelt growth, but skip if you need hard sci-fi rules.

Favorite Line: “Time waits for no one.”

I watched this in middle school it was sooo good

Beautiful film

It was so amazing and had me crying. It even has romance in it on top of the time traveling plot. It also teaches a valuable lesson that “time waits for no one”. Highly recommend
