The Farewell
A very touching and candid reflection of the dilemma families face with their elderly, also has good cultural references. Couldn’t stop thinking about this movie for days❤️🩹

Loved this. First time seeing a film where awkwafina isn’t completely obnoxious. She was actually pretty great in this, capturing the essence of missing the good parts of your childhood and confusion about why things changed perfectly. Granny was also too cute.

Wow! This movie got me!
“It’s fear that kills them not the cancer itself”
6 years after, Nai Nai is still alive. Which goes to show that if they would have told her the diagnosis, Nai Nai would have wasted time worrying about it rather than enjoying her family get together.

Lovely story about clashing cultures, cultural identity, cross continental family, life and mortality. Beautifully told.

Nai nai found out she had cancer in real life from watching this movie and I think that’s a real Truman moment

So emotional. I cried watching it on the plane. But so interesting how (perhaps rural) China is depicted.
