this movie asks some interesting questions, like does our past define us? how far is too far? can we atone for past actions? what weight do intentions with no actions carry? and why the fuck do we befriend people like Rachel?

Rachel is a hypocrite and she pissed me off like twenty minutes into the movie and then I was pissed the rest of the time.

The Drama

None of the four main characters were morally right and props to Rachel’s actor for making her character so unbearable. Playing the victim when she brought it up and to me, did something far worse than Emma and didn’t seem guilty about it.

Also Charlie laughed initially when Emma shared her secret and then switched up completely when he seen the other’s reaction. Fuck him.

Rachel hated Emma from the beginning and exaggerated to Charlie how she got her fired, when she wasn’t responding to work emails because she was too caught up in her victim mindset. Dragging out the whole silent treatment to still turn up to the wedding and give that anxiety inducing speech.

A very interesting perspective on how you really don’t know what the people you pass by and think nothing more of day to day are thinking or have done. To me, you can become a better person and I didn’t like how the cast seemed completely disregarded Emma’s complete pivot to work on herself, despite the fact her secret was fuelled by mental health issues. Charlie seemed to understand by the end, but he still went on to do something awful after this seemed realisation (and also lead Misha to almost redo the thing she admits was the worst thing she had ever done).

Loved all of the little details and the comedic side was definitely needed to break up some of the darkness and cringe in this film, but you can tell they wanted you to feel anxiety, cringe and uncomfortable throughout.

“what’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?”

okay first of all fuck you rachel. you fat ugly bitch. i have never hated a character in a film more in my life than her. god she pissed me off.

storytelling & screenplay are phenomenal. loved the chemistry between robert & zendaya.

the fact that this was all based on one simple question & how you answering it can change the trajectory of your life is so fucked. especially how it’s over a topic that is still happening to this day in american society is also so fucked.

even the thought of you doing a school shooting is fucking demonic. straight terrorism. fortunately i never was in one during high school, but there were some going on in different schools in my state. it’s so fucked.

it’s not the most cinematic, not much camera work, but it still tells a story especially in the editing & sound design. the editors absolutely nailed the flow of the film. every fast cut told a story. every cut spoke to me, it was intentional, fucking loved that.

lets talk about robert for a sec. bro is on a generational fucking run in cinema rn. from being a pale ass vampire in twilight to being an absolute beast of a batman, now this, dune pt iii, the odyssey, and batman ii in 2027. wow dude. i hope the academy sees it. bc he’s him rn.

zendaya in the other hand. what a breath of fresh air for me after seeing her chopped ass druggie in euphoria for 2 szns straight.

this film clearly sends a message. you will know if you really payed attention to it.

another banger in the bag A24. bravo.

This might just be the best rom-com I've seen in years. I was sucked in from beginning to end, harder than Misha on a 'stick'. Without the conversations on morals, redemption, and accountability, this film would not be what it is at all. The casting, acting, soundtrack, filming, dialogue, and editing are all beautifully executed, but the narrative subjects and dark humour put this into its own category. I still can't believe this film is even real. I don't know where to begin, so I'll just heavily suggest going in blind and making up your own mind before researching any purposes or intentions. Nobody is perfect, except maybe Zendaya.

I enjoyed it, although I was a bit confused on how the film wanted the audience to feel, like are we MEANT to think what she CONTEMPLATED doing at 15 is that big of a deal? Like it’s certainly concerning but given she DIDNT DO IT and hasnt in 15 years seems they overreacted

I wanted to like it but the dark comedy didn’t land with me. I’m sorry! zendaya and robert are fantastic actors in it. The cringe and uncomfortableness are peak. But I know a lot of people love this movie so enjoy it if you’re one of them!

rachel pisses me off so bad this fucking bitch can’t help but make everything about herself. the woman who asked you to be her maid of honor just told you and two other people that the worst thing she had ever done was plan to shoot up a school, which is unbelievably fucked up, yes, but you then go on to make that moment and every moment after about yourself with your stupid ass black and white thinking. “i don’t know anything but the most basic detail and emma is now the worst person i know” “if you aren’t completely one hundred percent against emma that means you love guns” “my cousin who i am not very close with and who has never met or so much as heard of emma and charlie is someone who i need to ask permission from to attend their wedding because she became paralyzed due to a mass shooting” fuck you rachel i seriously hope you get what you deserve and stop making everything about yourself to compensate for your lack of a brain you fucking prick get a hold of yourself for once in your pathetic fucking life you literally locked a kid in a closet heard them pounding and screaming against the door begging to be let out and then left the kid to be found days later all because you thought “hmmm this kids kind of annoying” thank god that kid was found otherwise you’d be a fucking murderer but nooooo the idea of causing harm to others which you’ve clearly had and which is not a thought emma has had in what fifteen years is completely unforgivable if she had gone through with it that’s a different story but she didn’t and instead went the complete opposite direction in calling for reform and gun control BECAUSE she realized what she did was fucked up yet you still to this day claim that what you did to that kid was not that bad because he was found and is now fine. your sense of morality is clearly fucked god i hate rachel genuinely one of the most infuriating characters in recent memory at the very least

Rachel’s secret was way worse than Emma’s?!
Zendaya and Pattinson were great, but tbh the movie didn’t completely work out for me; everyone’s reaction felt a little exaggerate. Eventually, I enjoyed it, but I think the story could have been developed in a different way.

to even begin a deep discussion about this film, you need to not only have radical empathy, but firm morals. should we be punished for our thoughts?what actions can we absolve?can you truly know anyone without knowing their darkest selves?i ended the film more curious than before
