Ooof. I did not enjoy this. The writing was so cringey. It felt like they were trying to speak the tag line to the movie. Also I hate the magic object that solves every problem the movie throws at it. Like you need to turn invisible, magic item does it. Need to read people’s minds, this does it too. Also need it to power up an entire news station, this does it too. Ugh so frustrating that this could have been great.

I’ll be honest, idk about this one, I really really loved the concept of religion, it wasn’t really followed through, and I really wanted the film to also explore the current state of the world.
Yet again, I’m not really a Spielberg guy, he’s really big on creating worlds, idk if he’s my guy for the stories created in those worlds.
This said, I did enjoy it, I think the whole sneaking scene was wonderful (camera movements) and also the train scene, really fun.
Maybe I’m just looking for something else, that’s on me.

Complete nothing burger movie.. literally just another movie about running from the cops, barely get to see aliens or at least anything having to do with them.
But with that being said, can’t deny Emily Blunts performance, she’s always great.. just sucks it was a crappy movie

Went into this cautiously optimistic after the trailer didn’t wow me and it just felt like a big nothing-burger. Sure the ending is fun (albeit expected) but in the 2 hrs leading up to it it feels like almost nothing happens to drive the plot, the characters also get shortchanged

It's definitely a Spielberg, with its distinctive camerawork, strong casting, humour, sense of wonder, character dynamics, emotion, storytelling, themes, and, of course, generic aliens. If only it had been released anytime before the 2000s... I only say that because the unintentional commentary on modern-day society is so implausible that it ruined the entire final act for me. I was fully immersed in the story, concepts, and performances until the ineffective ending yanked me out completely. Society, top to bottom, just wouldn't behave as the film presents it, and if it did, I'd be living in La La Land with E.T. and folk. Also, I wish the story hadn't finished as wide open as it did, but regardless of the ending, I really enjoyed it. It's like a mix of Minority Report and Close Encounters.

My unbiased side says this is inconsistent in terms of the alien artifacts, the organizations and how believable the characters are. The principal factor is the jarring beginning as it’s in the 3/8 part of the story with no real introduction. However, Emily Blunt outperformed 🔝

9/10 Magical/Emotional ending which you kinda come to except when watching a Spielberg film. Well coved line “On Earth god created humanity” which opens up the rest of the Universe (not just earth), nice. This film seats side by side with “Close Encounters” and “E.T”. Recommended

8/10 Though I feel like this movie should have come out like 20 years ago, this movie was able to capture great acting and storytelling.
At first I was skeptical in the beginning and though I feel like it did things I was questioning things characters did. But it was able to capture the idea of it pretty well.
After coming out of the theater I felt like this was a different type of alien films I am used to, this was not bad. I enjoyed it quite well.
After a rewatch, I still felt the same.

Like, high-key confusing, but listen… I had a good time. 💀 Was it a great movie? Eh. Was I entertained? Absolutely. And honestly, sometimes that’s enough.
Let’s start with the negatives because, unfortunately, there are quite a few. Disclosure Day spends A LOT of time setting up this huge mystery and building suspense around what’s actually happening. So when the big reveal finally comes, I was honestly just like… meh. 😭 After all that buildup, I expected something a little more interesting or satisfying.
And then there are some characters who genuinely felt unnecessary. Josh O’Connor’s character’s girlfriend, for example, felt like she existed primarily to create suspense and give the plot another obstacle. I didn’t hate her, but I constantly found myself wondering, “Why are you here?” 💀 Emily Blunt’s boyfriend was kind of the same way, although I’ll give him credit because at least he was occasionally funny.
Speaking of Josh O’Connor’s character… is this man an idiot? 😭 There’s a scene where he literally puts away the notes, business cards, and basically EVERYTHING that could be used to trace them back to them, only to somehow fall asleep holding the a page from the notepad he literally PUT AWAY. 💀 Like… be fucking serious. How do you remember everything except the one piece of evidence you’re literally holding?!
And honestly, the movie has a LOT of moments like that. Things conveniently line up exactly when the plot needs them to, characters make questionable decisions just so the story can happen, and certain coincidences feel way too convenient. Eventually it starts feeling less like clever storytelling and more like the writers forcing everything into place. And that’s where the writing lost me.
I also have to talk about the animals because… what the fuck was that CGI? 😭 The animal effects were genuinely terrible. Like, distractingly terrible. And I wasn’t a huge fan of what the animals were ultimately supposed to represent either. It felt like the movie was trying to be mysterious and whimsical, but instead it came across like the writers had written themselves into a corner and went, “Well… it’s just like that.” 💀 THAT’S NOT AN EXPLANATION?!
But honestly, this movie really showed me just how ridiculously talented Coleman Domingo is. Tell me why this man is basically on the phone for half the movie and STILL manages to be one of the best parts. 😭 His performance had so much weight and personality that he made scenes work that honestly had no business working.
And that brings me to the biggest positive: the performances. Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, and Coleman Domingo are genuinely the heart of this movie. Their performances are fantastic, and without them, I genuinely think this movie would’ve been significantly worse. They sell the material so well that even when the script is confusing or the writing doesn’t quite make sense, you still want to watch them.
I also really liked the decision to make the aliens good. That isn’t necessarily an unheard-of concept, but personally, I haven’t seen enough movies take that approach, so I appreciated it. It gave the story a different angle than the usual “aliens are here to destroy humanity” situation.
Overall, I completely understand the criticism of Disclosure Day. It’s confusing, the writing can be frustrating, the mystery doesn’t pay off as well as it should, and way too many things conveniently happen because the plot needs them to. 💀 But despite all of that… I had a good time. I was entertained, I liked the performances, and honestly, I watched this movie on my 18th birthday, so you already know a time was had. 😭
Was it Spielberg’s best? Absolutely not. Was I confused as hell? Absolutely. Did I still have fun? Yes. And at the end of the day, that counts for something. 😍

Amazing concept and just overall a movie with some great acting, but I feel like something was missing. It wasn’t the cinematography that Spielberg did fantastic as always, but rather something in the writing.

Disclosure Day is a thrilling sci-fi movie with an interesting story, strong performances, and amazing visuals. Steven Spielberg brings mystery, action, and emotion together in a film that keeps you engaged from start to finish.

Was it the best? No.
Was it goofy at times? Yes.
It felt like a cross between third kind and a superhero flick (in tone only), wish it was more grounded I guess
