There's a lot to be said about the fine line between privacy and technology but The Conversation is a timeless and provocative thriller.

I think what makes The Conversation work so well is that the sheer concept of “spying” and “surveillance” is a timeless notion.

Mass surveillance is one of the biggest fear mongering tactics across history. It was really interesting to see the act taking place, developing it and the repercussions of it. There’s an air of superiority of those carrying it out across the film, but time and time again, continually fall victim to it themselves - finding it easy to dismiss blame for their part in the results of their recordings. It’s eerie all around, and the film’s score highlights that in all the places you’d want it to.

Really liked Gene Hackman here, although can’t say I ever haven’t. He plays the loneliness and guilt of the character so well, you see it - but you can see the efforts made to hide it, a very fine line to walk along. Easily the creepiest I’ve seen Harrison Ford - never doing anything explicitly scary - but just his mannerism and facial expressions on certain line deliveries and actions. Really a masterclass in subtlety.

I think the middle section might hinder the whole experience a bit as it meanders along, but the two acts sandwich-ing it, more than make up for it. Excellent climax, great twist and a brilliant note to end the film on.

I had never heard of this film, but it turned out to be a pretty good thriller! I was definitely paranoid throughout the entire film and didn’t trust anyone Harry came in contact with! It also had an ending that I did not see coming! Definitely a film I wish I had seen sooner!

this film is klute adjacent; however without fonda and sutherland and the beautiful fruit market scene, this film depicts a very lonely paranoid man with no hoes and no fruit. (★★★½)

Watched the 4k Blu-ray. Looks and sounds incredible. The movie has a haunting quality to it. And the score sounds eerily similar to Severance. Or rather Severance’s score was very influenced by this movie. The movie leaves you thinking.

I started watching this movie 6 months ago. I finally had to get it out of the “watching” section. The concept of this movie is awesome and if it was remade it could be super cool. However. The first hour is boring as crap. The twist and final scenes are cool though and I’ll remember it for that.

I love that the film enemy of the state is an unofficial sequel to this film.

Always curious how he recorded the conversation on the boat

main character is a hypocrite and unlikeable, very overrated film. also this dude is ugly, isn’t rich and is not powerful so how does it make sense that two chicks are throwing themselves at him?

Fascinating, spine-tingling look at surveillance & conscience with a wonderful performance from Hackman as an isolated, paranoid man. Really makes you think about how exposed we are in the digital age.  Awesome sound design. Not necessarily rewatchable, but gripping still.

Watched cuz someone said the score was like severance. True. If only the first hour was as exciting and eventful as the last 35 minutes, this movie would be a BANGER

The realization of what all has been discovered.. dissecting every word & putting the whole conversation together was brilliant. 10/10

Kind of an unsatisfying ending. If they shortened every shot by 4 seconds the movie would’ve been better. Not a bad story and good acting from Gene Hackman

This movie was very very well done. I had a little trouble with it as it’s a very slow film, but by the end I was shocked with how much I liked it. Gene Hackman is incredible throughout and so is Harrison Ford in the small role he had. The plot grows on you as you watch until it really hits home at the end, cementing it as one of my favorite Francis Ford Coppola movies. Overall a solid 8.5/10
