The Choral
An interesting watch on the medium screen in Chichester. The older audience enjoyed it more than the younger and it did feel like it was produced by the BBC - slightly outdated and certainly British. It was a film that brushed its colour with light strokes and a lot was left unsaid. No particular character was presented on a surface level, except perhaps the young womaniser. That’s probably deliberate. Many subjects are brought up: waning of beliefs, touches of homosexuality, a fear of Germans, pomp from Elgar, among others. The most believable mix of people from a Yorkshire village. All characters seemed to have subplots happening and conflicts which cemented the complex community. Jacob Dudman was wild - YouTuber. Sexism. A white feather. The final shot of smiling 18 year olds slowly losing their smile was exceptional.
