It was good but if you dont know shit about stocks and mortgages good fucking luck understanding this

it’s not only funny and explains the economics behind the 2008 crash in a understandable way but is also still very relevant. loved the acting and casting, spot on and the editing is really good

God what was I doing being 5 climbing trees and playing when I should have been shorting mortgage bonds

But seriously this is a great movie about the 2008 collapse, and what otherwise could be considered boring/not worth hearing about is told in a comedic and engaging way

They take boring subjects or shit like “synthetic CDO’s” which is absolutely made up garbage that kept the money wheel turning and have random actors/professionals explain them in ELI5 formats

You don’t need to know anything going into this movie and it’ll teach you start to finish how and why the market crashed

The saddest part is that they started doing CDO’s again in 2015 under a different name which shows they truly don’t care about the common people — this movie is genuinely scary and as much as its comedic it still comes across as “oh shit” when you realize just how corrupt/sick everything is

It takes satirical legends like Adam McKay to expose and educate all while being poetically and refreshingly entertaining. The heart of capitalism is an obfuscated maze, but the workaround trying to explain without being completely condescending was incredible. From using distinctive faces to jokes and music that perk up your ears. As enjoyably distractive as the acting/cast was, 'The Big Short' wasn't anywhere short of supplying brutally important morals. I had repetitive goosebumps from the script/facts. Capitalist greed is a disease that the honest pay for..." and then they blamed immigrants, the poor, and for the first time, teachers."...and it's evident now more than ever.

Can’t believe I slept on this banger. It does a masterful job at dissecting the capitalism and greed that led to the GFC. The cast is so stacked and everyone’s performances are really great. The chaotic editing and fourth wall breaks really help elevate it too

The last of the New Year’s Triple Feature. Some of the funniest, snappiest, and most inventive dialogue/cutaways I’ve ever heard. 10/10 with Bonus Points for having Ryan Gosling naming The Talmud, Christian Bale, and Led Zeppelin for the End Credits.

The directorial style of this was interesting, now something I expected to see from Adam McKay. The jargon in this was heavy no matter how Margot Robbie dumbed it down. I think you’d quickly get lost even if you do understand all the stock terminology. This movie is fast paced.
