Wasted potential; a monotonous, self-destructive meditation on second chances and fate. There are, as usual, exceptional performances from Farrell and Swinton. The neon-soaked landscape is awesome and Berger’s direction is as stylized/alive as ever. The script is empty though.

Still not sure how to play baccarat

Yet again, Edward Berger proves his masterclass in directing. I absolutely love the locations and landscapes. The almost organised chaos of it all between hollowed-out echo chambers of emotion. I don't know what they did, but even the colours on items like clothing seemed neon. The characters were all so full of colour too. Farrell and Swinton both always seem to give it their all. As for the story, I do think the tension and depth could've been stronger, but point to point, it was pretty good. I was glued the whole way through, eyes and ears. I'd watch it all again, just for the credits scene. It really was the cherry on top.

It was good. The pacing held up, visuals were sharp, and the performances felt authentic. Some scenes dragged, but overall, it left a strong impression.

Ballad of a Small Player is visually stunning, but unfortunately it’s style of substance. The supernatural elements were completely underwhelming and undercut. In the end, it still makes me want to take a trip to Macao.

It was pretty good, excellent set design, colour pallet, acting and cinematography. Plot was just kinda boring and depressing overall. I liked the underlying mystery of the big mouthed ghosts that people turn into in Buddhist Hell as punishment for their greed and insatiableness. It gave a bit of a paranormal vibe which I enjoyed, and was a nice addition to the otherwise meh plot point of a struggling gambler on the run from his debts and shame.

My takeaway from this movie is that the visuals were great, and that it should have had the theatrical limited release instead of a house of dynamite

Wasn't much to it. If you just like gambling i guess, thought there'd be a little more to it

Is the cinematography good? Yes. Was the very good? Debatable. The ending was really bad and felt very very anticlimactic

It's a very good movie thrilling and interesting and conveyed the message in a very interesting and creative way

6/10 dealing with his own demons while finding a way to pay back his debts. Interesting story.
