I expected a standard tie-in, but the emotional weight of the new characters totally won me over.

What Worked:
Kikuchi’s vibrant cinematography gives the Raja kingdom a tactile weight that makes the combat pop. Through my Methodist faith lens, seeing Hiiro fight to protect Towa reminds me that true grace is stepping up to bear one another’s burdens. Jinguji’s editing and the sweeping score also give the climax a super dynamic flow.

The Cuts:
The middle really dragged for me; world-building and side quests stall the momentum. Keeping it spoiler-free, the villain’s scheme feels half-baked. Relying on a predictable curse trope makes the stakes feel one-dimensional. Plus, they sidelined Rimuru way too much; I just wanted room for him to act like the capable leader we know.

A striking but predictable side quest. Fun for fans wanting slick animation, but skip if you need a tight narrative pushing the main story forward.
