There is so much humor & charm that I couldn’t help but keep watching even when I can’t really make sense of it. It’s intercut with many little stories that’ll keep surprising you and ultimately embraces the sensual joy of food despite rigid customs, being very aware of the…

“There's no shortage of customers for good ramen.”

THE spaghetti western. Tampopo is both a movie i recommend to everyone and no one, its unique in its simplicity yet so erotic as it bounces between the line of endearing and too much, when i first started this i thought it was a pg, i was wrong. Not to even mention the fact it’s incredibly hilarious, i don’t remember laughing this hard since Hundreds of Beavers.

Tampopo focuses on a personal favourite of mine food wise, that being noodles, as i too connoisseur them, any brand you name it, Soba, Shin, Pot, Buldak or even Bibigo I’ve tried them, and while I’ve got a lot more I know more than the average person, so i quite enjoyed the whole aspect of preparing said comfort food as I found it insanely relatable. On top of all this I found everything about Tampopo so endearing, the characters the long shots the cinematography, it’s a film I will hold very dear to me can I recommend it? Yesn’t.

1st Act 9.7/10 (Stunning storytelling, funny from the very start, erotic and yet it feels so earned.)

2nd Act 11/10 (Side-stories at their best, main plot is at its most intriguing and finally the best quests they go on stem from this act.)

3rd Act 10/10 (Hopeful, gleaming with a smile yet saddened eyes as I finished this act, a well deserved 10 in that respect.)

Plot 9.8/10 (The mainline plot is perfect, the side-stories while entertaining and give a good emotional side to add, can be lacklustre, mainly due to the fact that they can’t compete with the main one.)

Soundtrack/Score 9.2/10 (Very little, but very effective.)

Acting 9.8/10 (Ken is the Japanese noodle equivalent of Clint Eastwood, absolutely steals the show.)

Pacing 10/10 (I genuinely have no notes it’s perfect, in-fact I wanted more.)

Cinematography 9.8/10 (Amazing shots just lacks that flair of colour here and there.)

Character Development 11/10 (Character heavy, so endearing, would change one thing but I’m still happy with how it turned out.)

Writing 9.8/10 (So naturally interesting, and every single line feels so careful planned out, whether it’s a funny joke or a line about noodles, all of its goated.)

Ending 9.8/10 (The ending itself is great, it’s the final shot which is a bit weird, yeah I know what it means it just feels like it’s discrediting the crew because ain’t nobody looking at the credits when they see what’s on the right.)

Direction 10/10 (Absolutely amazing, I can and will be revisiting Itami.)
