Superman II lacks the breathtaking cinematography, innocence, and imagination that gave Part One its magic spark.

Superman II

good! not as good as the first, and as a first time watcher, it stressed me out after 'giving up'' his powers. plus, i didn't like wiping lois's memory but i get it.

and what happened to lex at the end??

The villain is certainly better in this film.
I don’t know why they tacked Lex Luther along in this one because he really isn’t given much to do. The story hardly changes without him.
Clark and Lois’s relationship develops so much through the movie and it’s kinda unsatisfying to see it just reset for the next movie.
Love that we got to see the laser beam and frost breath from the Kryptonians.
You can tell just how much the technology advanced between the first and this.

Such a disappointment of a sequel not only is this movie has characters make out of character choices it goes of so much contrivance to get so the plot happens and the ending made most the movie pointless and I don’t understand why this was what they went with 1/10

Maybe a bit too ambitious for its own good. A campy but fun time.

Rated: 7.7/10 ⭐️

I expected a cheesy 80s flick, but the heavy emotional weight of Clark’s sacrifices completely blew me away.

What Worked:
Lester and Donner’s combined blocking gives the Metropolis battle tactile weight. Through my Faith Methodism lens, seeing Clark give up his power beautifully reminds me that true grace means sacrificing comfort to serve the community. The cinematography also perfectly captures the garish comic colors, making Reeve’s shift between clumsy Clark and confident Superman pop.

The Cuts:
Stitching footage from two directors means the tone is all over the place; shifting from dark myth-building to goofy slapstick feels inconsistent to me. Keeping it spoiler-free, the romance resolution feels half-baked, relying on a magical trope that erases the emotional stakes. Plus, continuity errors in the third act (like changing hair and makeup from scenes shot years apart) make the visual flow super choppy.

Verdict:
A messy but iconic classic. A must-watch for DC nostalgia, but skip if you need a seamless narrative.

Favorite Line: “Kneel before Zod!”

Superman II

pretty good, effects are dated but seem fine for the time and the narrative is honestly super eventful with meaningfully high stakes. i wasn’t following all of the superhero logic but i was still entertained the whole way through
