Murphy’s performance anchors this film and makes it more emotionally engaging. It’s tackling many difficult subjects; mental health, burnout, and failures in the education system, among others. There is a focus shift on characters that threw me off, but it’s otherwise good.

3/5 ⭐️
Steve is a film about a teacher at a school for troubled boys, where he has to deal with their personal struggles as well as their addictions. I think it could have been a great film if it had approached the story more from a psychological perspective, exploring the boys’ problems in greater depth and showing possible ways to help them overcome those struggles.
The film is entertaining, but I feel that it wasted a narrative that could have worked much better. Steve is a broken, exhausted, and addicted man, yet he continues to stand by his students despite everything he is going through. His character has a lot of potential because he is struggling with his own demons while trying to support these young men.
I also would have liked to see what happened to the school. Was it eventually closed? Did Steve continue struggling with his addiction? And was Shy going to be okay after his suicide attempt? I feel that these questions were left unresolved, and that is what the film was missing toward the end. A deeper exploration of these consequences could have made the story much more impactful and emotionally satisfying.

Couldn’t get into it need to watch longer than ten mins. I love Cillian Murphy and his acting so we will give it another shout at some point

Its just…good. It feels really realistic, and you really get a feel for the world steve is living in despite the short 90 ish minutes of screentime

The film has an interesting theme. It was the first time I've seen a film with this kind of theme, so I appreciate the choice of the topic. At least it makes the film interesting. I also liked how some of the scenes were shot, in terms of camera angles or visuals.

This was brilliant. I feel that the real main character was Shy as he represented the most hope for the younger ones. Every single character here has their problems and although it makes even the more likeable ones less so, it really brings out what human beings can truly be like

Top tier acting from cillian and a good plot. Very deep even down to the dark side of a simple rock collecting hobby.

i love shy, im so glad this movie didnt go in the route i thought it was going in. cillian played a fantastic role of a man with the weight of the world (this school in this case) on his shoulders. jay played shy so beautifully, i just wanted to give him a hug.

Good performances, but at times I wish characters and relationships were more explored. It was shot very well and the teacher-student relationship felt perfect at times. I insight the news crew provided was intriguing, however, it felt unnecessary at times
