Can you believe this is based on a real teleporter Einstein-Rosen bridge thing that the US military found in Kandahar, guarded by a giant with red hair seemingly a descendant of the ancient Uruk king Gilgamesh? I found that extremely interesting.

I guess its good for the time it came out but I didn’t really get the appeal

The first 20 minutes were strong enough to grab my attention for about an hour, and then the typical Emmerich shenanigans began. Guns blazing, plot fading, and lore negating. It's disappointing when you can see the passion and, of course, money in the visuals and sound design. There's so much story behind critical plot points missing, and the information we do get is riddled hole after hole. Great casting, poor writing. As for the cultural narrative, it's what you'd expect from Hollywood. Honestly, I think a remake would work wonders if they focused on historical accuracy and genuine sci-fi.
