A fantastic movie to watch by yourself in a dark room. This will make you think about your life in a new way. It’s slow but in the best way possible.

Good movie! Was drunk when I watched it so I missed a lot of the symbolism but made sense after I read an ending explained article lol

technically outstanding, feels like almost the original version of the backrooms but from 50 years earlier, the set designs are so incredible for how old this film is - the acting is phenomenal from the main trio of the cast - this story is so brutal and at times kinda makes you want to like curl up and die because of how depressing the themes are but through it all there is a flicker of hope - these are the types of films that i’m always delighted to see bc how tf did someone really come up with this idea and put it on film 50 years ago, so impressive

A film that poses valuable questions with performances to make the journey worth experiencing. However, the runtime of this film mixed with a very slow burn, will have you fighting to stay awake.

Extraordinary waste of time

Sure looks cool but I wouldn’t die for it

I can't be negative simply because I didn't understand a film. Maybe I should've done some research before blindly jumping into this. Otherwise, I wouldn't be sitting through almost 3 hours waiting for something to interest me. Oh well, it is what it is.

this film is really profound. it’s probably a bit too slow for my personal taste, but there is so much to be gleaned from this film. it has some really beautiful things to say if you’re willing to listen.

epic in philosophical scale while remaining intimately connected to its characters and settings, tarkovsky’s most popular film remains masterful for its ability to make minimalistic sci-fi and dystopian themes feel grand. excellent visuals and performances, a timeless classic

Tarkovsky Binge No. 5: A surreal and existential sci-fi that explores desires, faith and human nature

cinematography is amazing but the story does not do the source material justice

This is not at all what I expected this to be, however I left pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed what this had to say. Out the gate this is incredibly Soviet, you feel it in the expressionism, and you feel it in the structure; this is for lack of better words a dense and sturdy cinderblock of a film. Every shot is 5-10 minutes too long, entire sequences will be 3 shots of extended conversations culminating in 45 minutes of runtime, yet it not only demands your attention, it encourages your active participation. This is a film that implores you to internalize every line of dialogue, every philosophical debate, every existential fear experienced is forced onto the viewer to process; with entire stretches of film completely restricted to near silence and contemplation at what just happened, no matter how dull the scene was, there is always something you will be stuck with. This strays from the source material in that it really doesn’t cover anything, there are no connections to really any of the stories told in this universe whatsoever, yet at the same time it is entirely STALKER, it owns those vibes in the same unique way the games and books have all these years later. Take my rambling word, this is worth your time, it is masterfully put together by a legend of his craft, it is beautifully acted and has a unique, intriguing score. Incredible. 4/5

While I appreciate this film for being experimentally artistic and surreal, it still was super boring to me and incredibly slow. Maybe I will give it another try one day to see if I like it more later on but as for now, it didn’t grasp me.

Tarkovsky is genius and this film is proof of that

Normally I wouldn’t rate something so high that I didn’t understand fully while watching but reflecting on some of the scenes, cinematography, and character development throughout its clear this is one of the more artistic films I’ve ever seen. Not usually my style but loved it.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this movie was 2 hours longer than it should have been. First hour was insanely boring, as was most of it.

Interesting ideas though, I was intrigued (even though nothing happened) and it was absolutely beautiful to look at.

SO SO long though.
