meeehhhhhhndjsydbfkduhr. god i want to like this movie more but i just can’t. this isn’t a spider-man film, it’s an mcu film. the biggest issue with homecoming is so much worse in this movie: it’s way too connected to the mcu. like you have to know about the blip and all of that nonsense and you have to watch so many other films to fully understand this one and to understand those films you have to watch so many others and on and on and on. it’s exhausting, and it’s the reason this spider-man series may not hold up that well as time passes. and it’s in europe??? fighting elementals??? ik it was mysterio which is a spidey villain but his beef was with tony stark mostly. it just doesn’t have a friendly neighborhood spider-man vibe at all
those issues aside, this film is great. tom holland continues to excel as both peter parker and spider-man, and i adore his relationship with mj. it’s really a breath of fresh air that their relationship isn’t defined by their issues, but rather by the fact that they really enjoy being with each other. i just wish we got to see more of it in this movie
while i do not enjoy how connected they made it to the mcu, i cannot hate the connection to tony stark. i wanted to, but then i realized that tony stark is lowkey uncle ben. spider-man’s mentor that died in his arms, and everyone loved their relationship. i actually think that’s really beautiful
love love love that we got to see more spidey sense. it’s so underutilized (tobey maguire didn’t have it at all that dude saw nothing coming), so it was cool to see it so fleshed out
all the technical aspects of this film are amazing, but what else can you expect from an mcu film? spider-man definitely deserves it, and it makes me so much more grateful that brand new day exists, so we can see him with great affects in a true spider-man story.
the post credit scene sucks. like i could not care less that nick fury was actually a shapeshifting alien from captain marvel the entire time. has nothing to do with spider-man, just adds more confusion, and significantly takes away from his character on all subsequent watches

Spider-Man: Far From Home
Yikes….
This just isn’t Spider-Man. One of the biggest shit shows within the whole of Marvel, nothing gels, there’s zero coherent flow - it sucks. The whole EDITH thing is just soooo dumb, the Mysterio plot is ridiculous and is all played so simply-handed, the whole “reveal” scene about halfway through is one of the most ridiculous scenes in any Marvel film - and The Marvels exists… Beyond that it’s ugly, through and through - Netherlands scene innocent, although it’s hard to fuck up shooting somewhere so naturally pretty!
Despite the dreadful script he has to work with, Jake Gyllenhaal does some brilliant stuff here. Quentin Beck is a pathetic character, and he leans into it harder than anyone should - but it works! Tom Holland is still very solid here, thankfully spending the majority of the film as Peter - even if a lot of the natural story-beats are thrown into the abyss.
You just don’t make a Spider-Man film out of New York… it’s ingrained in the character, it’s essential, and this film robs the character of his identity.

Honestly feel like this movie gets a lot of unnecessary hate but it’s not a bad movie at all.
Something that did hurt it was it lacked nice spiderman-esque fight scenes. Decent performance by Jake Gyllenhaal.
