Opening scene was so sick… all the action was thrilling! Keanu was so so good. Young Sandra was adorable. Some of the writing was silly, but overall, really clever and fun writing. Wasn’t a perfect film, but a classic fun ride!

Proper naughty little 90’s banger. Cheesy as you like, borderline bullshit in a lot of what goes on, but boy is it a fun ride.
It’s virtually 3 films in 1; the whole extended opening, the speedy bus and then the cat and mouse climax, it’s insane. I feel like it shouldn’t work in the way it does, perhaps it’s the combination of exciting set pieces with the practical stunt work and action, but it all feels so, so palpable.
Keanu Reeves is really quite solid here, it’s cheesy still naturally, but there’s a sincerity to the performance and he comes off far better than normal. Dennis Hopper is on something here, unhinged performance, bordering cartoon villain, I don’t even feel like it was written that way - Hopper just rocked up and they all went with it. Sandra Bullock is the heart though, she’s funny, relatable, and just puts in a very good bit of work.
I never watched the failure sequel that Reeves bailed on, and I don’t think I ever will. I couldn’t think of anything worse than compromising this classic.
