Sólo con tu pareja

I’m not usually a fan of Mexican films, but for my Cinematic Auteurs class we’re studying the three Mexican directors: Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro, and Alejandro G. Iñárritu. We started watching Sólo con tu Pareja, Cuarón’s directorial debut.
It’s a somewhat silly comedy, but it does a great job of delivering its message about HIV/AIDS. Back in 1991, many people in Mexico were still quite conservative when it came to topics like sexuality and condoms. The film handles the subject surprisingly well by mixing in dark humor, Mexican stereotypes, prejudice toward foreigners, strong language, and romantic drama.
It’s not Cuarón’s best film, but it’s definitely an entertaining watch.

Sólo con tu pareja
Very good performances and a fun stylistic dark comedy with a nice central emotional core but it is a bit slow a times, overall a fun watch though “for those sick of life, love is the cure”
