Whether or not it can attract audiences looking for a tense spy thriller, the time spent on character development and eye-opening revelations is wholly watchable.

When it comes to Oliver Stone, I'm all eyes and ears. I'm a fanboy of his films, more so his biopics, and I admire his politics. The runtime might run a little long, but for a story this dense and consequential, two hours is barely enough. Plus, the insights and performances make it worthwhile. The accuracy isn't 100%, but the changes made, mainly due to dramatisation or unavailable sources, don't affect the key facts or core messages of the film. From a prying, pitiless, power-hungry governmental machine to small, voiceless, everyday people, Snowden could have let corruption thrive in ignorance. Instead, he put his life on the line and pushed back. To me, that's true heroism.
