Not Asian but I can relate to her looking back at my younger self. Literally crying looking at white girls knowing I’ll never look like that (embarrassing I know). And even though it took a very unique spin on it the concept on exploring race and diaspora issues it still felt very bland and predictable. Even down to the “smelly” lunchbox scene. The ending felt so undeserving because what exactly did she learn. Cus I don’t think she learned to truly be proud of her asianness. She doesn’t atone for throwing her Asian friend and other poc under the bus for proximity to whiteness. She just didn’t wanna look like a monster. Like girl ok. Plot twist had me gagged I won’t lie and I did like McKenna grace in this.

i get the message but this movie had so much going on but also nothing??? it was so flat and the dialogue was so awkward. i also dont like how they never elaborated on the other issues THEY BROUGHT UP. this is a background movie at best.
