This is a movie of a bygone era - an era when an audience could be impressed by the sheer happiness of a story and moved by the footwork of a master.

I didn't think I would like old musicals as much as I liked this from the acting to the singing, especially the dancing, I wish there were more in the movies that came out similar to this

This is probably my second favourite musical ever, and that comes from someone who absolutely hates them, especially the romantic ones.
Everything is beautiful, the writing, the acting from the beautiful cast, the colours used in everything, the set designs, clothes-

You know, I didn’t even know half those songs were from this film - crazy effect this film holds on Hollywood.
First and foremost - what a pretty film, Technicolor is no joke, the vibrancy and depth to the colour, especially in the “Broadway Melody” sequence was insane. All around a very good story, not quite the 5/5 it is for many others, although it isn’t a film that I’ve grown up watching from parents/grandparents which I truly think helps with any film, but a really great watch nonetheless.
Also my first Gene Kelly film… I know, I know! He’s fantastic, the pure athleticism required for set pieces of this stature is extraordinary. Such a strong physical presence throughout with fantastic choreography. Jean Hagen was the standout in many scenes for me, obscenely funny with that atrocious voice, although I wasn’t keen on the turn to villainy in the climax.
Even more fascinating watching this after being such a fan of Chazelle’s work, particularly in Babylon with its influence there, but even with the theatricality from La La Land’s musical numbers that I watched literally yesterday! There is something truly magical about Classic Hollywood - and Singin’ in the Rain encapsulates all of it.
